Rutland Mills
WakefieldDating back to the nineteenth century, Rutland Mills is a derelict 9,300 sq m textile mill complex adjacent to the Hepworth Gallery at the edge of the River Calder in Wakefield.
The developers, City & Provincial, envision a rich and thriving cultural hub with facilities for music and digital studios, start-ups, creatives and the local community. The scheme will also create educational space, a hotel, F&B and complementary facilities to the Hepworth Gallery. Hawkins Brown have created an exciting masterplan which meets this vision and will additionally provide significant new public realm with a new courtyard and event space at its centre.
Opera have been appointed as project manager supporting City & Provincial’s aspirations and collaborating with Wakefield City Council in delivering appraisals necessary to secure grant funding support since 2019.
The first phase of works, comprising of four buildings, completed in December 2022 with a further three to follow in the second phase by Q4 2024.
